The Missing Sock, celebrations and events
Newmarket road, CB25 9AQ Cambridge, Cambridgeshire
To mark the launch of EYE INSPIRE, a project to encourage young people with sight-loss across the UK to follow their goals and aspirations, the quirky Missing Sock venue in Cambridge is hosting a very unique pop-up dining experience evening in November – the guests will dine in the dark!
£20.00 per person (plus booking fee) for two-courses. Menu will not be available to view, but any dietary requirements will be catered for. Wine and drinks will be available from the bar (and table service).
Students from Cambridge Regional College
catering department are devising the two-course menu which aims to tantalise taste-buds, and really prove that normally we eat with our eyes. We can guarantee that all diners will not be able to correctly guess what they ate – there will be a quiz at the end of the evening, with prizes given to those guessing closest to the true menu.
A very special guest will be attending the event, who is also on the Eye Inspire board to deliver the inspiration talks to sight-loss youth groups. James JC Laird
, 24-year old sci-fi writer and world-traveler, has made recent news with amazing pioneering AR (augmented reality) glasses which have enabled him to see incredible sights across the world even though he only has 5% vision. The glasses, designed by optician Daniel Crown, are equipped with cameras which focus and enhance what is around him. Speaking of his remarkable journey James said: “When I was young I was told about my diminishing eyesight and vowed from the get-go that I’d never let it stop me. My dream was always to travel. The world is a gigantic place with billions of experiences to discover”. Guests at Dine In The Dark will be able to hear all about James’s extraordinary journey.
Spaces are very limited. Entertainment will include music, cocktails/mocktails and some additional surprises!
The proceeds from the event will go towards the Eye Inspire project. Your attendance will help inspire young people with sight-loss from across the UK.
Eye Inspire is launching in November 2018 at the Dine In The Dark event in Cambridge — A sight-loss inspiration agency with 'inspiration warriors'. An ongoing series of talks to sight-loss youth groups, from amazing sight-impaired people who have achieved great things in music, sport, art, and science. Linking people who have achieved great things with sight loss youth groups to share their experiences. Social mission: To inspire young people with sight loss and to help them build confidence in their own abilities. To show to the general public that anything is possible, and to encourage everyone to push their own creative boundaries, regardless of their abilities or situation.
