The RIBA Smart Practice Conference 2018 places the focus on design quality, emphasising the discernible benefits of better communicating its value to clients and the wider public.

Value-added products or services are worth more because they have been improved or had something added to them. The value that architects bring to a project is synonymous with design quality. This encompasses build quality, performance, outcomes and safety, as well as design itself. How can we, though, as a profession get better at measuring, demonstrating and communicating the design value that architects bring to buildings and cities?

This event will focus on the very human benefits of high-quality spaces for occupants, highlighting how they can be expressed and evaluated through social value. It will also underline the opportunities that architects have to more accurately assess and communicate the benefits of design quality to clients and the public, whether it is through a better understanding of clients and their business models or by providing the right professional services. The final session will place a spotlight on design quality and delivery, accenting how high standards can be retained through procurement and the valuable contribution that architects can make to the construction industry.
